
Crab Derby Rules
- All crabs must be legally harvested according to WDFW rules and regulations.
- Crabs must be alive, healthy, and of legal size.
- Remove your crab from the water at least 5 minutes before it is weighed by the judges.
- Choose your category before weighing your crab. You can enter only one Dungeness Crab category.
- If you have both, you can enter the Dungeness Monster Crab and Red Rock Crab categories simultaneously.
- For the largest limit, you can enter only one legal limit of 5 crabs per person.
- You must have a valid crabbing license and a completed catch card for the crabs you enter.
- Judges will weigh your crab.
- You must allow the judging staff to mark your crab to qualify for the event. They will snip the tip of one of the back legs after weighing.
- The judging staff reserves the right to disqualify any catch at their discretion.
- Contestants can win only one category.
- Entries must come to judges between 3 PM & 7 PM on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025
Crab Derby Categories
- Biggest Catch Limit: To be determined by weight of the heaviest catch limit (5 crabs or less)
- The Monster Crab: DeterminedΒ by single heaviest crab
- Rockin’ Red: The largest Red Rock Crab

Where to Purchase Your Racing Ducks:
- Daily 10 AM – 4 PM @ the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Information Center (4819 Alderson Rd. #103, in Birch Bay).
- Sunday, August 17th 11 AM – 2 PM @The Beach Cat Brewing Co. Phone Booth (7876 Birch Bay Drive).
- Monday, August 18th 1 PM – 4 PM @ The Birch Bay Waterslides (4874 Birch Bay Lynden Rd.).
- Wednesday, August 20th 11 AM – 2 PM @ The C Shop (4825 Alderson Rd.).
- Wednesday, August 20th 3 PM – 7 PM at the Birch Bay Bookmobile at the Birch Bay Vogt Library Express (7948 Birch Bay Drive).
- Thursday, August 21st 1 PM – 4 PM @ The Birch Bay Waterslides (4874 Birch Bay Lynden Rd.).
