Support the Birch Bay Vogt Library Express with the 2nd annual “Love your Library Fun Run & Walk!” This is a fun run for everyone, bring your whole family and start your day by enjoying 1.6 or 3.2 miles on the berm followed by Pancake Breakfast, Book Sale, Story Time & Kids Activities at the Birch Bay Vogt Library Express!

Where: Run starts at Cottonwood Beach (North of the Bay Center Market in Birch Bay). Pancake Breakfast at the Birch Bay Vogt Library Express located at 7968 Birch Bay Drive.

Derby Day Poker Run!

Our Birch Bay Poker Runs have become one of the most popular activities during our events. Travel to different locations in Birch Bay using your golf cart, bicycle, or feet drawing a playing card at each stop. The object of the game is to have the best 5-card poker hand at the end of the course. Teams compete for prizes in this family-friendly non-gambling event.

*Registration is REQUIRED and limited to 52 teams. We recommend you register early! Registration opens August 17th, 2024

Billy Brown’s Annual Crab Derby!

Local Birch Bay resident, and long-time supporter of The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Birch Bay Community, Billy Brown is back to weigh your crabs for his annual celebration of crabbing in Birch Bay!

Date: Saturday, August 31st, 2024

Time: 3 PM – 6 PM – Winners announced just after 6 PM

Where: In front of the Beach Bar (located at 7876 Birch Bay Drive)

Cost: FREE to enter!

  • Crabs must be alive, healthy & of legal size as per law.
  • You may only enter 1 legal limit of 5 crabs per person.
  • You must have a valid crabbing licence and a completed catch card for the amount of crabs you enter.
  • you must allow judging staff to mark your crab to qualify for this event.
  • Judging staff reserves the right to disqualify any catch at their discretion.
  • Entries must come to judge Billy Brown behind the Beach Bar @ Birch Bay located at 7876 Birch Bay Drive between the hours of 3 PM & 6 PM on Saturday, August 31st, 2024.

Biggest Catch Limit: To be determined by weight of the heaviest catch limit (5 crabs or less)

The Monster: To be determined by single heaviest crab.

Rockin’ Red: To be determined but he largest Red Rock crab.

I hereby acknowledge that participating in the Birch Bay Crab Derby presents a risk of personal injury, death and damage or loss of personal property may result from my participation, and as such, I hereby acknowledge and recognize the existence of these risks, and assume all risks completely, and agree to the following:
I agree to assume all risks of illness, injury, or death, and hereby agree to release The Birch Bay Chamber or Commerce, The City of Blaine, & Whatcom County, their departments, officers, agents, activity leaders, employees, volunteers and other parties involved from and against all judgments, damages, penalties, losses, costs, claims, expenses, suits, demands, debts, actions and/or causes of action of any type or nature whatsoever, including actual and reasonable attorney’s fees, which may be sustained or to which they may be exposed, directly or indirectly, by reason of personal injury, death, property damage, or other liability, alleged or proven, resulting or arising out of the performance under this agreement by County. Whatcom County does not waive, and specifically reserves the right to assert any and all affirmative defenses and limitations of liability as specifically set forth in Title 4 of the Revised Code of Washington.

The Ducks are Back and Ready to Race!

After a grueling 12-month training regimen our professional racing ducks are ready to go! We will release them in Terrell Creek during Derby Day and watch them race up stream and TRY to catch them all near the CShop!

1. The Birch Bay Duck Derby (“Derby”) is a random drawing raffle; it is sponsored by and all net proceeds benefit the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce (“Sponsor”), 4819 Alderson Rd. #103, Blaine, WA 98230. Sponsor is a registered 501(c)(6). 
 

2. The Derby is open to persons age 18 and over. Employees of Sponsor are not eligible to win. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are binding and final on matters relating to this raffle. All federal, state and local laws apply. Void where prohibited. Raffle purchases are not tax deductible. 

3. To enter, eligible entrants must purchase a duck at $5 each online (birchbaychamber.com) at the Sponsor office (4819 Alderson Rd. #103, Blaine, WA 98230), or by form available from Sponsor. Online duck purchases must be received by August 30, 2024. Duck sales may be suspended at any time by Sponsor. A maximum of 800 ducks will be sold.

4. Odds of winning depend on total number of qualified entries. Rubber ducks will be launched on Terrell Creek at approximately 4:30PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Birch Bay, WA. Date and location are subject to change without notice. No attempt to free or interfere with any duck will be permitted, unless deemed necessary by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to manually maneuver rubber ducks along the course and terminate the race and determine the winners by random selection. Only rubber ducks provided by Sponsor will be entered, and all ducks remain the property of Sponsor. 

5. Prizes will be awarded in order to eligible entrants, as name appears on registration form or online entry, whose entry number corresponds with number of the first ten (10) rubber ducks in order of finish and the final duck to finish (“Slacker Quacker”).

6. Prizes: Prize packages consist of merchandise and services procured from members of the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce and other area businesses. Prizes will be awarded for first through tenth place, and for last place (“Slacker Quacker”). Acceptance of prize offered constitutes permission to use winner’s name and/or likeness for advertising purposes without further compensation necessary, unless prohibited by applicable law. 

7. Prizes carry no cash value.

8. Winner need not be present to win. Winners will be notified by telephone, email or U.S. mail at the phone, email or address indicated on entry form or provided online. Winners will be announced on the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) as well as in the weekly BUZZ newsletter. In the case of insufficient contact information and/or if Sponsor is unable to contact winner and if winner does not contact Sponsor to claim prize within 30 days of race date (September 30, 2024) or if winner is deemed ineligible to win, Sponsor may select alternate winner through random drawing of entries. 

9. By entering, winners’ consent to use of name, address and likeness for advertising, promotion and publicity purposes without additional compensation. No substitutions, cash equivalent prizes, transfer or exchange of prizes will be provided in lieu of prizes. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute if advertised prizes become unavailable. 

10. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel the Derby or change any element thereof, with or without notice, at any time, for any reason. Should the Derby be cancelled at any time for any reason, Sponsor reserves the right to select winners in a random drawing from among entries received. 

11. Entrants agree to be bound by these Rules and all decisions of Sponsor are final and binding. Each entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor and other associated businesses, government entities, and organizations, their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliates and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from and against any liability, action, loss, damage or claim arising in any way from participation in or administration of this Raffle or with respect to the awarding, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of any prize. 

12. The Birch Bay Ducky Derby complies with laws and policy set forth from the Washington State Gambling Commission.
